Few moments in fantasy literature carry as much weight, tension, and quiet brilliant suspense as the fateful meeting beneath the Misty Mountains. It’s the moment a simple hobbit stumbles into something far bigger than himself and where the fate of Middle-Earth subtly shifts course forever.
My son has just picked up ‘The Hobbit’ for the first time and I’ve been on the hunt for some inspiration and with some time off and an incredible soundtrack composed by Howard Shore to drive me I put together this piece.
It was great fun starting with that blank canvas and coming up with an idea, all starting from a basic (and I mean basic sketch). I wanted the piece to be layered up and using rock textures and a significant light source I wanted to create the dingy atmosphere of the cave that Gollum resides.
