Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist Poster

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

Just last month the live-action web series Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist was launched to the public on YouTube (via Machinima). I’ve been following the development of this project almost from the start mainly because I’m pals with Patrick Gill, the awesome composer that created the music for the series. Now I’m not the biggest Street Fighter fan going but I’ve played a few of the games, know the characters and some of the back stories. If I’m honest, I didn’t know what to expect from the web-series, after all we’ve seen a film adaptation fall short and video-games as a rule don’t generally succeed the transition.

Happily, any doubts I had about Joey Ansah’s take on this Ryu and Ken story were proven wrong as it was a blast to watch. There’s decent storytelling here and great martial arts to boot. Ansah respects the characters enough to give them depth and not cheap shot one-liners or over-exaggerated fight moves. There’s plenty to enjoy even if you’re not a die-hard Street Fighter fan.

Creating this poster was great fun, mixing some old and new techniques that I’ve learned over the past few months and if anything I just want to encourage more people to check out this web-series!
