In 1993 when Jurassic Park hit cinemas I was pretty excited. Bringing dinosaurs back to life whilst displaying some amazing computer effects for it’s time, the film became an instant classic and with it came a ton of merchandise. I believe I even had a few of the toys myself but the collection I wanted was the Topps Trading Cards. There were stills made from scenes in the film, dinosaur facts, stickers and holograms. What more could a kid want? Well luckily for me the illustrator in me remembered something from that collection of which I still own today.
A few months ago I caught the CG animated film ‘Rango‘ starring Johnny Depp as a chameleon abandoned in the wild west. Whilst watching I was captivated by the detail on the individual character designs. They were incredible! I found out (thanks IMDB.com!) that some of the character designs were created by none other than Mark “Crash” McCreery. That nickname ‘Crash’ had stuck with me for many years and I remembered that in my collection of Jurassic Park cards they released a small “Art of Crash” series. Frantically searching through my baseball cards I discovered the small group of JP cards and thankfully none of them have been damaged or even worn down.
So as a bit of nostalgia I’d like to share with you this small collection. So cool to see this stuff again, I hope you enjoy!
