Creative Mondays 211 – David Bowie

What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

It’s a sad day when someone who has influenced so many leaves us. But there’s no reason for the sadness to be the overwhelming emotion. Celebration of a life lived is also important and like many others marking today’s news of David Bowie passing away I wanted to create something to tribute the artist.

I don’t claim to be Bowie’s biggest fan or know all of his catalogue but I can appreciate the creativity and passion the man had for music and art. Reinventing himself and producing original music for over four decades is something of an achievement not to mention influencing the ‘Glam and Punk Rock’ movements in the 70’s.

And that’s the beauty of his legacy. For what I missed in the past I can still revisit and his music will be able to live on well into the future.

Another super busy week passes by and this time I got the chance to go to Barcelona for the OFFF Festival (Celebrating it’s 15th year!). What’s OFFF you say?

Taken from the OFFF website:

“It is more than just a Festival hosting innovative and international speakers, it is more than a meeting point for all talents around the world to collaborate, it is more than feeding the future.

OFFF is a community inviting all those who are eager to learn to participate and get inspired in a three-day journey of conferences, workshops, activities and performances. What is it about exactly? It’s a combination of Offline/Online designers, Motion Designers, Thinkers, Sound Designers, Graphic Designers, Theorists, Developers, Professionals, Students… Putting the titles aside, OFFF is made for the curious.”

There was so much to see on this trip, and I’ll probably do a full round-up when I can pull together all my notes but I thought I’d share a few photos and things I created during the three days of inspiration!

The two doodles below were illustrated in my sketchbook and then photographed using Adobe’s new ‘Adobe Shape’ tool on my iPhone. Once they are photographed they become vectored images that you can directly import into Adobe Illustrator with the use of a Creative Cloud account.

Finally, seeing as I brought my GoPro with me and didn’t want to waste it, I put together a short video of my final evening and trip home. Just a little send off reminding me of an awesome trip!
