Creative Mondays 183 – Typography Quote Posters

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

I haven’t really experimented with anything lately just for the sake of experimenting so I figured I’d dig up an old quote I liked and play around with a few typefaces. I’m constantly scouring the web looking for awesome imagery and fonts for inspiration and this was a perfect platform to simply ‘play’.

His words mean just as much today as they did 45 years ago when John Lennon released his first solo single ‘Give Peace a Chance’.

Playing around in Photoshop this week, I was looking through some old Creative Mondays and thought I’d have another go at the ‘Find what you are looking for’ design. The television being on in the background was clearly a distraction as I was apparently listening in on an episode of Sherlock Holmes…

I owe a great deal to photography. Thing a Week was a photo challenge I joined a few years ago and not long after that I did a 365 photo project on my iPhone. Both of these heavily influenced my thinking behind starting the Creative Mondays series and I read a great quote from Annie Leibovitz that inspired me to create this piece.

Once I got into the rhythm of creating and designing, the ideas and the thoughts were always there. Soon enough what to create wasn’t a chore but something that excited and challenged me. Annie’s quote perfectly sums this up for me.

This week’s idea came from two simple lines. I was experimenting with the pen tool in Illustrator and created these two lines that curled away from each other in a very organic way. Something as simple as that can start an idea (and let it grow) and so I decided to turn the lines into a growing plant.

Once I had the shapes I wanted I imported the file into Photoshop and worked on the lighting and texture elements. I really like the simplicity of this piece, it’s great to pause, reflect and be inspired!
