Creative Mondays 213 – Boba Fett – Punishment

What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

Star Wars and comic books. I can’t get those two subjects out of my head. So if you can’t beat ’em, create a remix with Boba Fett as the Punisher! Mixing my favourite bounty hunter with Marvel’s awesome antihero. I want to see this as a comic!

This image was built from scratch using Photoshop and Illustrator and using reference images of Boba Fett I found online.

A couple of years ago I was playing around with an idea to create a GTA V Atari advertisement. I pulled together images from a stock photo site and created a mock design. Just last week I put together another Star Wars poster (inspired by the recent Battlefront game) and the illustration reminded me of that retro artwork style that featured on some of the game cartridges.

I think the Snowspeeders look pretty damn awesome as the cover image and I figured I’d try and recreate this with another recent video game poster I designed.

I’d really like to see a resurgence in video game artwork, it seems to be happening to some degree in the film industry. It was always about capturing the imagination of a game and if the amazing artwork could sell a game that consisted of only a few pixels, that in itself is pretty impressive.

And just for fun I figured I’d add another poster to the mix.

If there was an entire post dedicated to a few words, this week it would simply be Star Wars Battlefront. EA’s long anticipated first- and third-person shooter arrived last week and summed up most of my weekend. It’s the game I wanted to play as a kid and it’s the closest I’m going to get to being in the Star Wars universe (unless I get to be an extra in a film…).

Naturally, inspired by the game I thought I’d create a poster in the style similar to my ‘Force Awakens‘ designs. So those awesome Snowspeeders became my focal point on the incredible ice planet Hoth engaging in an almighty battle against the Empire… I could go on. But I think I’m going to go and play some Battlefront.

Creative Mondays 190 – Movie Cards

Films are a huge passion of mine. Love watching them, discussing them and should really think about making one myself. Whenever I see any design work related to the film industry I immediately take notice and whilst browsing Dribbble I found a great post by Paul Nechita. He started a ‘Daily UI Elements’ project and on day 49 he created an example of a Movie Card that I thought I’d like to try my hand at.

I picked a few films that were on my radar and decided to try three slight variations of the same design. I find this type of work useful as a digital sketchbook so that I can look back over potential good or bad ideas and use elements in future projects.

I’ll apologise now, there was a brief hiatus on the old ‘Creative Mondays’ posts but for good reason. It’s not everyday you move house, visit Ireland, have your folks stay with you for the week and take a trip to London to see Star Wars Secret Cinema so I hope that this latest addition to the weekly post is sufficient enough to keep you happy!

Last year when the original teaser trailer was shown for The Force Awakens inspiration struck and I created the Millennium Falcon speeding over a desert landscape. To continue with that theme I thought I’d design a few X-Wing fighters out from that same trailer and create the scene where they cruise over the water. The hype is still on for this film, December can’t come soon enough!
