Creative Mondays 147 – Reflection

Reflection 35 Double Exposure

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

This week’s been a pretty busy one and with it rounding off with my birthday on Saturday! I didn’t consider this birthday a milestone in any way but birthday’s are often a time of reflection and I thought I’d create a few double exposures of myself and Iceland, where I was born 35 years ago on October 4th, 1979.

This week’s Creative Mondays perfectly sums up “experimentation”. I recently stumbled across a fun new online project being run by Adobe that allows creative artists to upload their own portrait in a style of their choosing. It’s  part of a campaign to promote the latest Adobe Creative Cloud suite.

I figured I’d give it a try so using both Photoshop and Illustrator I came up with an artistic portrait of myself and then applied it to a slightly modified photograph. You can see “artistic portrait” below. The idea is to upload the final image to my Behance portfolio and tag the piece “new creatives” so that hopefully it can sit on the website along all the others!

In the age of Instagram and the photos of every day life it’s only natural that Zombies would want in on this action! The idea for this image came from the latest challenge on the PSDtuts+ site. Basically the task is to Zombify a photo of your choosing and this is what I came up with. There are no limits to the amount of entries allowed in this challenge so there may be a few more zombification experiments in the next week or so!

Just remember, Zombie’s need attention (and likes) too!

This piece was created from a photo I took on my iPhone (4S) and worked on it using a few stock images from the stock.xchng site. Some basic colour correction work and a blood splatter brush was also used. I’ve included a small before and after shot for comparison.
