It’s 2016, welcome to NEW!

So I’m ushering in another year and 2015 was something pretty special! Another year full of creative goodness and hopefully some different projects for the months to come (although a bundle of joy might interfere a little).

With the new year now upon us I felt it was time for an upgrade and I’m pleased to launch my new-look site, complete with a new portfolio look! It’s still early days with the site and I’m hoping to add a lot more content into the portfolio as this will be a focus for 2016.

CreativeJUUS was always used as platform for experimentation and it will continue to do so but I wanted to give a chance for the other work to be seen and that’s why the Portfolio features heavily on the front page. The blog still continues and I will update is as much as possible.

I’m certain there are a few bugs lingering in the code of this website but I’ll be trying to sort them out as soon as I can. If you spot anything wrong please feel free to get in touch!

Here’s to the New Year, hope it’s a good one!

Creative Mondays 200 – New Dawn

“What is Creative Mondays?

Monday’s are always a drag. The start of a new week, you have to go back to that routine of going to bed early/get up early. If (like me) you have to commute then you prepare for that long journey into work and that long journey back for the first time after a nice two day break.

So to kick off those lousy Mondays, I’m going to get my creative mind flowing in a positive way. Creative Mondays. A chance for me to show off something unfinished or finished that I’ve been working on throughout the previous week.”

As last week was ‘Back to the Future’ week, I wasn’t sure if there was anything that could top it. I tend to post things that are personal to me on this site but usually only in the design sense. As I’ve hit my 200th Creative Mondays post (something I’m damn proud of) I felt the time was right to share my latest creation but this week there’s somewhat of a collaboration to talk about. It will be nine months in the making and most of the work will be done by my beautiful wife! If you haven’t guessed it yet, we’re expecting our first child!

We’ve had the scans and fingers crossed everything is going well so far, it’s such an exciting time I won’t be able to properly express it in words (hence the quick design). So here’s to 200 posts, the constant inspiration, my beautiful wife and our new addition!

Creative Mondays 179 – Mad Max: Fury Road

With the release of the latest Mad Max film (getting massive rave reviews) I was inspired to create a little something. I thought I’d play around with the icon that caught my eye in the trailer and as a nod to Charlize Theron’s awesome ‘toxic black’ look, I replicated the makeup style on the skull.

I can’t wait to see this film at the IMAX, I’m pretty sure it was made specifically for that kind of experience!

CreativeJUUS Store is Online!

Store Open Image

Yes that’s right! I finally got my ass into gear and set up a little CreativeJUUS store to sell some of those prints that I’ve been “saying” I’d sell all along.

So prints are the next thing to get into full production and starting off with the initial stock I’ve included two posters from my collection. My Star Had to Die poster and Halo 4 poster are ready to go now and I’m putting a sale on both of those items immediately!

A Star Had to Die and Halo 4 Poster Preview

Both posters are A3 size and the pricing will be £10 (plus shipping) until I add more stock.

I’ll be announcing more posters for sale soon so make sure to follow my Twitter and Facebook accounts to catch the information when it drops!

What do we become assholes or something?

If you know this site, you’ll know something is different. It actually loads and works now? No that’s not it but I’m hoping those problems will be ironed out with the new lick of paint CreativeJUUS has just had.

When I started this site in 2009 as a means to ‘get back to being creative’ I really didn’t know what I was going to do. I was a bit lost (stuck in a non-design job) and I wanted to create an outlet to share anything and everything that I could creatively muster. I started finding interesting artwork, design work or anything I could share on the site but I really knew that I didn’t want it to be another inspiration gallery. So I got my act together and started my Creative Mondays project. Thankfully since then I haven’t really looked back. Ideas started to flow, freelance work picked up (alongside the 9-5) and design was in my blood again.

In order to fix the future you have to go back to your past.

I was creating designs for fun and sticking to a routine on my blog that enabled me to discuss my methods and share with others. Soon it seemed my site wasn’t really keeping up with what I was doing. I tried to ‘tack on’ new sections so as to show off my newly created portfolio but the original template wasn’t designed for it. The blog wasn’t as responsive as I liked and the homepage generally felt cluttered. I went back and looked at what worked in the past to help propel myself further into the future. Hell if Doc Brown and Marty McFly could do it, I’m sure as hell gonna give it a shot (minus that almanac of course). It was time for a change. Get back to the basics and keep it simple stupid.

Now I hope I’ve got something that can do the job a bit better. A dedicated portfolio section for one and a much better way to show off my digital design presence. With digital in mind, I realise that my site is viewed on more and more mobile devices so the new theme is fully responsive. Writing is not something that comes naturally to me so the focus is primarily on the design and the imagery as it’s the best way to sell myself as a brand.

So welcome to the new and improved CreativeJUUS, she’s a prettier machine than before and hopefully you’ll stop by and giver her a glance.

Oh and if you notice anything wrong with the site let me know, there’s still a few kinks to work out while I update the archive and portfolio!
